Pele Reid

Pelé began his martial arts interest at the age of 10. At 13 years old Pelé joined the Black Dragon Lau Gar Kung Fu Club ( Newtown ). This has been his base under Sifu Vincent Lewis for the last 22 years. Pelé progressed to 2 nd Degree Black Sash in Lau Gar Kung Fu, was awarded an honorary 1 st Dan Black Belt in United Korean Martial Arts. Pelé has held the following titles: 1 x WAKO World Champion, 2 x WAKO European Champion, 5 x WAKO British Champion, 2 x British Open Kumite Champion and 1 x Super heavyweight Kick Ju Jitsu British Champion.

Pelé's major disciplines are traditional Kung Fu, Boxing and Thai Boxing. Pelé currently trains in Thai Boxing at Trojan Wolverhampton & Cheltenham (Coaches: Tony Myers, Charlie Joseph and Winston Walker).

He does not plan to stop there, his goals for 2005 is success in every area of his life, with particular focus on the K-1. Pelé embarked upon a boxing career with promoter Frank Warren and trainer Bredan Ingle. Pelé trained with Ingle alongside Prince Naseem Ahmed, Johnny Nelson and Junior Whitter for 5 years, during which time he achieved the WBO Inter-Continental Boxing Heavy Weight Title in 1998.

Pelé says his greatest achievement to date was in 1992 in the European WAKO championships when he defeated Vitali Klitscho in Bulgaria . At 6 ft 8 inches he was very intimidating and seemed to have all of the physical advantages. He was a huge star in his country with an impressive track record in Boxing and Full contact Kick Boxing. Pelé knew he had to do something spectacular and quick in order to beat him. At the beginning of the second round Pelé caught Vitali with a spinning kick and KO'd him! David defeated Goliath! Pelé was relieved.

Pelé's motto ……” …The greatest glory of living is not the never falling, but in the rising every time we fall …” (Nelson Mandela). Pelé's fighting career is testimony to this quote. He had some setbacks but in life to succeed you have to be a true warrior. His defeats have made him stronger and more determined.
