Hector
| Well known in the Handsworth area of Birmingham for organising the late night Kung Fu movies that were shown in the early 70's at the Grand Palace Community Centre. Hector who everyone in the community calls him Captain Boogie (a DJ in his spare time) just like Bruce Lee was a dance champion. He was part of the security team for Mohammed Ali's visit and Nelson Mandela's visit lead by Eugene Codrington who was the personal Body Guard for Mohammed Ali at the time. | ![]() |
He teaches Wado Ryu and trains at DoJo 2000 in the Body Sculpture, Handsworth. The Body Sculpture is a well known place within the community for weight lifting, martial arts and fitness training. His peers are people like Eugene Codrington, he knows younger martial artist like Kash the Flash and Pele Reid exceptionally well. He said to me if you want anyone for the fund raising event that you have not already got then give these guys (after giving me several phone numbers) a call and tell them Captain Boogie told me to call. Once you meet this guy you feel you have known him for years. |

| He told me that his main aim of Dojo 2000 is to keep unity within the community. He runs the centre voluntarily. He has been called upon within the community to arbeitrate, motivate and encourage young and old within the community. He strongly recommends his students to try out other martial arts to develop their skills. When the young men who walk through the door of The Body Sculpture see Captain Boogie they greet him with all the signs of respect. | |

He has been very successful over many years working with young people in showing them that there is a better way through sports and martial arts. He teaches ‘Your body is your temple' and the importance of ‘Chi.' He has been on TV for some of the work he has done with young people and has been very much involved in the educational project Compact 2000 which is widely used within schools. He will continue to use his martial arts and other athletic ability to work today for a better community. |
